Position Summary
We’re seeking a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professional to join our team at Project New Generation, supporting individuals with developmental disabilities who require behavioral support in a group home setting. In this role, you will provide hands-on care, teach independent living skills, and implement individualized behavior support plans to help residents live safely, confidently, and with dignity. The ideal candidate will have patience, emotional stability, and a genuine passion for empowering individuals with developmental and behavioral challenges to reach their fullest potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct care and supervision to residents with developmental disabilities, including those with behavioral health needs, in a group home environment
- Implement and follow Individual Support Plans (ISPs) and Behavior Support Plans (BSPs) as written, without deviation
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and eating
- Support residents with meal preparation, housekeeping, laundry, and other household routines
- Administer or assist with medication according to agency policy and training (medication administration certification may be required)
- Recognize and respond to behavioral triggers using approved de-escalation and crisis prevention techniques
- Document daily progress notes, incident reports, and behavioral data accurately and on time
- Transport residents to appointments, community outings, day programs, and activities as needed
- Support residents in building social, communication, vocational, and independent living skills
- Communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary team, including behavior analysts, nurses, case managers, and family members
- Maintain a safe, clean, and structured home environment
- Respond calmly and professionally during emergencies or crisis situations
- Attend all required staff meetings and ongoing training
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Prior experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities and/or behavioral health needs preferred
- Current CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Article 9/DDD/DES fingerprint clearance card, or abilityย to obtain one
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record (if transporting residents)
- Ability to complete required trainings, including CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention), medication administration, and behavior support training
- Strong communication and documentation skills
- Ability to remain calm, patient, and professional in high-stress situations
- Physical ability to assist with transfers, mobility support, and other physical care needs as required
- Flexibility to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
