Position Summary
We’re seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Pharmacy Technician to join our long-term care pharmacy team, supporting the accurate and timely preparation, packaging, and dispensing of medications for residents in skilled nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, and group homes. In this role, you will work under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist to ensure medications are delivered safely, cycle-filled correctly, and coordinated smoothly with facility nursing staff. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, familiarity with unit-dose and multi-dose packaging systems, and a commitment to accuracy in a high-volume, regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Fill and package medications using unit-dose, blister pack, or multi-dose card systems for LTC facility residents
- Process new orders, refills, cycle fills, and emergency/STAT orders for multiple facilities
- Accurately enter and update resident medication profiles into pharmacy software systems
- Coordinate medication delivery schedules with skilled nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, and group homes
- Communicate with facility nursing staff to clarify orders, resolve discrepancies, and manage medication changes
- Process medication reconciliation for new admissions, discharges, transfers, and readmissions
- Maintain accurate records for controlled substances in compliance with DEA and state Board of Pharmacy regulations
- Prepare and manage emergency medication kits/boxes (E-kits) for facilities as required
- Monitor and manage medication returns, destructions, and credits according to facility and regulatory guidelines
- Assist with compounding medications under pharmacist supervision, as needed and permitted
- Track and maintain inventory, including ordering, receiving, and stocking pharmaceutical supplies
- Ensure compliance with facility-specific formularies and payer requirements (Medicare Part D, Medicaid, AHCCCS, private insurance)
- Support Pharmacist with prior authorization documentation and insurance billing issues
- Maintain confidentiality of resident health information in accordance with HIPAA
- Participate in on-call or after-hours rotation for urgent facility medication needs, if applicable
- Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant pharmacy workspace
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Active Pharmacy Technician registration/license through the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy
- National Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB or ExCPT) preferred
- Prior experience in a long-term care, institutional, or closed-door pharmacy setting strongly preferred
- Familiarity with unit-dose/blister packaging systems and cycle fill processes
- Working knowledge of medication names, dosages, and pharmaceutical calculations
- Experience with LTC pharmacy software (e.g., Framework, DocuTrack, or similar) preferred
- Understanding of Medicare Part D, Medicaid/AHCCCS, and LTC billing processes a plus
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately under time pressure
- Excellent communication skills for coordinating with facility nursing staff
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple facility accounts/deadlines
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
- Fingerprint clearance card as required
